A glance at the art of mosaic in our country
Mosaic is one of the oldest decoration arts in our region
(Syria). Recent discoveries reveal its roots stretching to the third millennium B.C.
The sequence of cultures in this region has had an impressive effect on mosaic art. It enriched it with various forms and pat- terns lending it a great renown worldwide. So many magnificent mosaic slabs have been discovered in many cities such as “Mari,
Shahba, Antioch, Sweida, Palmyra, Hama and Aleppo”. Some of them have been moved to local and world museums; and some are still in place after being restored to remain for generation upon generation as testimony to the grandeur of arts and culture in our country. |
